Applying for Benevolence
The National Benevolent Charity welcomes applications for financial support from people living in great need.
In order to qualify for financial help from The National Benevolent Charity a person must:
- been resident in the United Kingdom for not less than 12 months
- live in their own home, whether owned or rented
- if under state retirement age, be in exceptional circumstances such as in receipt of disability living allowance
- have less than £10,000 of assets (excluding their home) if a single person and £18,000 for a couple
- have a disposable income after certain expenses have been disregarded (e.g rent, council tax) of less than £7,665 per annum for a single person and £11,555 for a couple
All applications must be submitted on a standard application form and applicants will be required to provide full details of their financial position.
Where possible and appropriate, applications should be supported by one or more referees, for example a doctor, nurse, social worker, local clergyman etc, but applications without support will be considered.
Each year The National Benevolent Charity receives many more applications for financial assistance than it has funds available. For the time being, preference is given to applicants who do not meet the qualifications of other benevolence charities and to applicants living in areas where The National Benevolent Charity is better established. All applications are considered by the Welfare Committee.
